Share in our passion for geometric pattern

We admit it, we have a passion for geometrics; it’s a style that offers so much opportunity for creativity and playful, yet meaningful, design. The results are full of life, beauty and energy in a way that is always balanced and harmonious, which is why geometric influence sits at the heart of so many of our most-uplifting designs.

Made up of structured shapes and lines, often based on mathematical principles, simple elements, including circles, squares, triangles and polygons, are used to create patterns. So far, so precise, but throw in a few dynamic zigzags, chevrons and energetic spirals, or V-shapes and diamonds to create rhythm and movement, and geometric design adds layer upon layer of drama and interest.

Magic moments

Combining these lines and shapes might sound deceptively simple. Lines, squares, rectangles and circles add structure, chevrons and zigzags add energy and dynamism, while V-shapes and diamonds create rhythm and movement. But the skill lies in the balance of both shape and colour, which is when the magic really happens.

Geometric design has appeared throughout history. Early human life engraved lines, circles and spirals on stones and cave walls, possibly for symbolic reasons, and every civilisation since has had its own interpretation.

Art Deco popularity

Enjoying a peak in popularity during the Art Deco movement of the 1920s and 30s, sleek, geometric shapes, often in a repeat pattern, gave Art Deco a modern, glamorous reputation. Designs were balanced and harmonious, with luxury and elegance at their heart.

There is a wonderful simplicity to geometric design that encourages, and allows, fantastic freedom for maximalist style. There are no unnecessary details - every line, shape and colour has its role. The result is symmetry and harmony, even when there are lots of elements at play.

We celebrate geometric design with a few of our personal favourites here. So, if you are looking for balance and harmony in a design that excites, enthrals and shares a story, we’ve got you covered.

Shanghai Blossom Hand-tufted Rug and Runner

Full of strong lines and chevrons in a mesmerising herringbone pattern, our multi-colour Shanghai Blossom design blends geometric patterns with the soft rounded shapes of florals and foliage. Abundant chrysanthemums, lotus flowers and peony roses in gentle pinks and yellows, unfurl against a bold, colourful, more-structured backdrop, all highlighted in shimmering gold and encased in a slim golden border. Gold adds to the sense of luxury and grounds the other colours in this sumptuous design.

Herringbone Florals Hand-tufted Rug and Runner

A glorious V-shaped background features in our Herringbone Florals design. Bold lines and blocks of colour make a beautiful contrasting backdrop for the vibrancy of chrysanthemums, lotus flowers and peony roses in full bloom. Positive and powerful symbols of life, each floral motif is etched in gold, adding a touch of luxury to an elegant colour palette inspired by nature.

Vogue Deco Hand-tufted Rug and Runner

Inspired by the Art Deco era, Vogue Deco is a shimmering vision of green, pink, gold and black. Elegant cranes, which symbolise longevity and good fortune, soar above pretty lotus flowers, a symbol of purity, and full-blown peonies, which represent prosperity. The gentle colour combinations of the flowers are set against a dramatic geometric backdrop, with gold accents bringing glamour and luxury to a design full of joy and positivity.

Pink Moon Hand-knotted Rug

Monochrome lines and chevrons are combined with the gentle pink ombre of a huge moon and soaring, gold-etched cranes in this mesmerising design. Drawing inspiration from peaceful symbols from Buddhism, Pink Moon combines her stark monochrome pattern with the softness of gentle pink and warming gold. The repeat-pattern black and white border lends structure, allowing the imagery of the rising ombre moon and its golden circling birds to share a joyful story of hope and positivity.

Plumage Hand-tufted Rug and Runner

The natural world often inspired Art Deco design, but in a simplified, stylised form. Sunbursts, fans and feathers were frequent motifs. The Art Deco effect is instantly recognisable in Plumage, which was originally inspired by one of Wendy’s earlier designs, Peacock. Imagery for Plumage stems from an almost-hypnotic, repeat pattern of semi-circles, reminiscent of layered feathers in row upon row. The result is an elegant, neutral rug that grabs the attention and doesn’t let go.

Plumage Gold Hand-tufted Rug and Runner

An instant classic, the introduction of gold to the wonderful repeat pattern of Plumage adds an extra layer of warmth to the design. Easy to place and live with, this is a glamorous neutral that makes a nod to the timeless elegance of Art Deco style.

We feel these particular rugs and runners demonstrate the creative scope that geometric design offers. We hope you find a favourite – we can never narrow it down to just one!
