March Style Notes (What we loved…)

March Style Notes (What we loved…)

We thought our picks over the last month would have been more floral influenced due to it being Spring time but we are a little late up here in Scotland. And we’re not feeling altogether Springy yet. Expect next month’s style notes to contain blooms and petal inspired frivolity.

And so…March! We start with fashion because we’ve been really coveting these pieces this month so let’s dive right in.  This Peacock Intarsia Mink Fur Coat by Gucci. I’m not sure we need to say much about it really.  It speaks for itself! Peacocks feature prominently in Wendy’s designs and so we’re always drawn to them. What’s exquisite about this coat is not only how the negative shape created by the mirroring of the peacocks really works and is incredibly feminine, it’s also how the design continues around the back.  It will have to remain in our dreams though because at £38,870 we can’t quite afford it.  We’ll just look at it on Pinterest from time to time.  Sigh.

And whilst we’re creating our dream wardrobe we picked this Pillar Skirt by Mary Katrantzou.  It’s 100% silk and 100% gorgeous. It’s made to order and…. it’s way over budget again.

These objects of desire really tie in to the stye it dark fashion we’re seeing in interiors right now (interiors, as we know is following fashion quicker than ever before).  It’s an opulent and dramatic look and when used with emerald greens and deep sea blues these colours stand out agains the dark like jewels.  Follow the #styleitdark hashtag on instagram for inspiration. If you’re into this look you may like our Mount Orient Crewel Stitch rug (or cushion).  Because they’re lightweight they are very versatile and can be used as throws, bedspreads and wallhangings as well as rugs.  Read about them in our blog post here.

Now for the most exquisite basin you’ve ever seen from The London Basin Company.

We’re thrilled to have come across this company founded by a Mother and Daughter teamwho are inspired by their trips around the world.  The Yasmin basin is made from porcelain and has a contemporary Asian feel to it – the gold details add a hint of luxury.  It’s such a simple way to make a statement in the bathroom and we think it works especially well in this neutral setting which allows the basin to become the focal point.

The colourful art and design of Asia has had a heavy influence on interiors for centuries and it’s fascinating to see modern interpretations of it.  In our Orient Collection oriental design was the starting point for these stunning rugs.  They’ve been given Wendy’s signature use of black to punctuate the details, giving an often graphic feel to the rugs, and gold viscose to add opulence.

Staying with the gold touches that we’re so fond of we think this Mulberry Leaf Lounger from Graham

& Green is a simple yet stylish way to take a load off. It’s going to make its way into one of our ‘Rug Stories’ in the near future but it warrants a look here too we think.  Looking at it now we can see how it echoes the sun’s rays from our Sunburst rug – although this isn’t the rug that we will be highlighting this chair as an accessory to.  If you’re keen to see our new Rug Stories blog posts ,which pick out the best interiors accessories to suit the rug in question with explanations why, then check out our Rug Stories here.

Last but not least is this Prana Nightstand from Anthropologie. Simplicity again. We love the brass detailing against the wood which creates a richness and warmth. The tapered legs are so elegant! Keeping things simple in the bedroom (ahem) can let the soft furnishings you choose create the mood of the room and of course what’s great about this way of doing things is that you can get a different look in your room by changing the bedding.  And…this seems the perfect time to let you know that Wendy is in the process of designing her first bedding collection for John Lewis.  It’s incredibly exciting for us and we can’t wait to share her designs with you.
