Paradise Chair – Aileen Daly
We came across Aiveen Daly in Estila Mag (Volume 2. Issue 17). This chair just leapt off the page. What struck us the most was how much care and love had obviously gone into the design and the making of this piece. Reading about Aiveen we discovered that she undertook a traditional furniture reupholstery course at London Guildhall University and it was here that her passion for centuries old furniture took hold. Being inspired by the craftsmanship that went into these old pieces (that were very expensive for the time and seen as a luxury) she went about using similarly exquisite fabrics and upholstery techniques which has informed her business philosophy. Surreal Succulents Wallpaper – Ella Doran
Ella Doran’s wallpapers are simply fabulous. Here, these succulents look as if they’re floating on a pool of inky, cool, still water. The black ground creates a wonderful contrast to the pale pastel sages and pinks, giving a more graphic and edgy feel to the design. There’s a bit of a thing about dark bases at the moment. Read on….
Margot Two-Seater Sofa from Matt Arquette at MADE.COM
How nice is this? The Margot Collection is upholstered in smooth velvet with a traditional buttoned backrest. And look at those brass caps on the wooden legs! What a delightful finish. These sofas are perfect for those with small rooms. This two-seater, for example, is only 133cm wide. Finally those of us not blessed with huge old houses can have some show stopping furniture too. Dusky pink is such a pretty colour but not too girly. We think it would look amazing with our Mandela Viscose rug… What do you think?
Flora Snake Print Silk Dress by Gucci
And finally for a bit of fashion… it’s the dark base thing again. Florals pop against a dark base in this divine Flora Snake Print Silk Dress by Gucci. The reason we set our eyes upon this is because Wendy has recently submitted some rug designs to John Lewis for SS/18 and amongst them is ‘Garden of Delight’ (below) which has that wonderful dark base for the colours to show off against. Wendy has long used black to punctuate the design details and to make the colours pop, creating an often graphic feel to her rugs (especially in her geometric designs). In her words “finally, after 20 years I’m in fashion!”.
